Thou wonderful gift from loved ones for birthday,
thou saver of aggravation and time,
wood and plastic, I must confess,
you were almost worth cleaning the table of mine:
what nice, wound balls, do you produce,
of wool, acrylic, cotton, or blends.
but can you also manage silk?
what of large balls like Eco Wool?
or ones of thin thread like Squishy Toes?
what to wind first? what hank?
My apologies to Keats. I couldn’t help myself. Matt got me the lovely swift and I used my birthday check from my parents to get the winder. Now, instead of taking a good 30 minutes – assuming I had zero interruptions and the hank was in perfect order – to wind each hank, it’s less than a third that amount. And, soon as I realized the leading arm thingy had to be locked into place, I can produce these lovely, neat balls of yarn.
On Saturday afternoon, Squirms was napping and Matt taking advantage of the quiet time in his office, so I just took over the kitchen table and wound balls until my fingers felt like they were going to fall off. Enough Vintage to finish my sweater (the first ball was a mess so it’s not in this shot) plus one of Ms Babs sock yarn for socks for someone at some point. I should be good for a couple weeks, at least, though I can’t wait to have an excuse to take the winder and swift back out!
